Our Start

A statement from the creator of Gunday Monday, Kaylee Werner:

February 15, 2018. Less than 24 hours after two people I knew were murdered in parkland. That day marks the start of my activism. I realized then, that I was too late to act upon the issues surrounding gun violence.

I soon found out that this assumption was wrong. Only 8 months and 12 days later, a shooting hit even closer to home when 11 members of my old synagogue lost their lives to a gun. I thought then about my activism in the previous 8 months. I thought about how I had marched, I had protested, I had boycotted, I had led letter writing campaigns, and I had met with my legislatures but it clearly wasn’t working.

“Why hasn't it worked?” That was my thought for days after October 27 (Tree Of Life shooting) as I went to vigils and shabbat services. But I soon noticed more than ever how much teens opinions are so often ignored by adults. We are having conversations on Instagram and adults are having conversations on Facebook. The time has come for teens to go directly to our adults by invading Facebook. This is why I created Gunday Monday.

Our Motto

This is our shot. These four words mean more than ever to us. We must take a stand against gun violence, and spread the word. This is our shot, and we are not going to lose it.

Our Logo

Our logo is more than just an image to remember us by. It shows the target teens feel on their backs everyday. The logo represents the way teens feel without proper gun violence prevention.
